Quad VA-One Valve Amplifier – First Listen
The Quad VA-One Integrated Amplifier is the latest product to join the Quad family. The VA-One shares the same chassis the as the successful Quad PA-One Headphone Amplifier/DAC and features both digital and analogue connectivity. With a footprint measuring just 18cm wide x 33cm deep, the rear panel consists of 1 x RCA (analogue), 1 x OPT, 1 x COAX and 1 x USB B inputs. A Bluetooth (aptX) connection is also provided, giving you great choice however you choose to listen to your music.
While the Quad VA-One valve amplifier may only be small in size, power and price, the music presentation will leave you with an overwhelming opinion that this is a charming product designed for serious music listeners. This point was proven when we connected the VA-One to a pair of Spendor D7’s. We were pleasantly surprised at how well the ‘15 watt per channel’ VA-One powered the medium sized Spendor’s and nothing short of impressed by the musicality created by this pairing.
The sound produced by the VA-One was delightfully warm and engaging combined with detail and rhythm. We are of the opinion that we have not experienced such a beautiful musical presentation from an integrated amplifier at this price point before.
As a result of our listening experience, a home has been prepared at Home Media in readiness for the delivery of our very own cuddly Quad VA-One.

Quad’s traditional dictum reads: “The closest approach to the original sound” and yet again, they live up to it.
