KEF Audio have always excelled in their sonic achievements through research and development, adapting the latest material science and computerised modelling to build truly exceptional speakers. With the latest incarnation of the Reference range, there’s always an element of excitement as to what can truly be achieved by KEF as they push the boundaries of sonic performance.
It is safe to say that KEF have surpassed expectations and defined a new level of performance with the Reference 3 floorstanding speakers. Much of the technology in the Reference 3’s is derived from the work that went into the Blade and Blade 2 speakers, making it one of the most radical changes to the Reference series seen in recent years, with brand new drive units and a complete overhaul to the cabinet design.
Same DNA, more modest dimensions and the same uncanny ability to generate an intricate, totally natural-sounding 3D soundstage. The two 165mm (6.5″) bass drivers are positioned perfectly above and below KEF’s latest 125mm (5″) MF/HF Uni-Q driver array in a D’Appolito configuration. Fidelity across the midrange and treble is outstanding, and the transitions imperceptible.
With Uni-Q’s broad inclusive dispersion, everyone in the room can enjoy the same rich, spatially precise acoustic imagery without being restricted to a narrow sweet spot. As well as putting you right at the heart of the original performance, it gives you the soul.
