Ruark Audio have created quite a stir with the release of their flagship music system, the R7. You would be forgiven for initially assuming that the R7 is a in fact a rather well kept 1950’s Radiogram, instead of a performance audio system from 2014.
We are often reminded as we journey through life to never judge a book by its cover, and this is clearly one of those moments. So what’s on offer for a not insignificant two grand? To start with, the retro styling has a performance benefit, enabling the large cabinet volume to create a sound stage with real weight and solidity.
We opted to turn on the Enhanced 3D Sound Processing and the overall music presentation was enriched, without the impression of adding colouration to the sound. Turning the Enhanced 3D Sound Processing off briefly during a track left us feeling that a hole had appeared in the sound stage and quickly navigated the menu to re-engage the feature.
The 1950’s styling of the Ruark R7 meets the 21st century head on with its wireless music streaming capability and Bluetooth aptX connectivity as well as the usual CD Player, FM/DAB/DAB+ offering. There is also a USB charging port suitable for Smartphones and Tablets.
A product with such a distinctive style will always be met with differing opinion. If you think the Ruark R7 would compliment your interior decor, then we would give it the thumbs up on its performance and feature set alone.
